IN MEMORIAM: Dr. Chas Hoffman, Past MMS President October 1, 2012 General Marin Medicine, Fall 2012, Volume 58, Number 4 Longtime Marin internist Charles “Chas” Hoffman, MD, passed away in August at the age of 87. Born in Ohio, Hoffman settled in Marin County in the early 1950s after medical school, residency and more than a decade in the U.S. Navy. He established a solo private practice and also worked part-time at San Quentin and the old Ross Hospital, where he helped manage the ICU. He served as president of MMS from 1975 to 1976, and he was a founding member of the Medical Insurance Exchange of California, now known as MIEC. After retiring in 1992, Hoffman continued to visit former patients at nursing homes. He also swam daily and played tennis and bridge. He and his wife, Nancy, were seasoned travelers, but they mostly enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren.
