Anthem, Sutter, UCSF and Brown & Toland Form Bay Area ACOs Focusing on Chronic Care July 9, 2014 ACOs, News ACOs, Anthem Blue Cross, Brown & Toland, Accountable Care Organizations 0 Anthem Blue Cross announced three major Bay Area health care providers, UCSF Medical Group, Brown & Toland Physicians and several medical foundations linked to Sutter Health have agreed to join regional Anthem ACOs that focuses on patients with two or more chronic conditions. It's unclear how big an impact the new Bay Area ACOs will have, however, since they focus only on PPO patients with multiple chronic conditions. But they include many of the biggest and most powerful doctors' groups in the region, which together include thousands of Bay Area and Northern California physicians. The new accountable care organizations in the Bay Area and Northern California will include doctors affiliated with Brown & Toland Physicians, based in San Francisco; UCSF Medical Group, and several Sutter medical foundations — the Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation, Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Sutter Medical Foundation, Sutter Gould Medical Foundation, and Sutter East Bay Medical Foundation. The Brown & Toland and UCSF Medical Group participants joined Anthem's so-called Enhanced Personal Health Care ACO as of July 1; the Sutter groups are joining as of October. The program will be open to self-insured customers in July 2014. Comments are closed.
