CDC Health Advisory: Contaminated Heater Cooler Devices Used in Cardiac Surgery

A CDC Health Advisory was issued recently concerning potential contamination of Sorin heater cooler devices used in cardiac surgery.  The devices have been found to have been potentially contaminated with Mycobacterium chimaera

CDC and California Department of Public Health are recommending that hospitals that use these devices notify potentially exposed patients, and that medical providers consider M chimaera infection in patients who have had cardiac surgery.  Hospitals should follow FDA guidance to minimize the risk of infection if the devices are used.
