Covered California Provider Search



The provider search is now available through Covered California's "Preview Plans" tool. To access:

  1. Visit www.coveredca.com/ and click on "Apply Now" button near the center of the screen. 


  2. Next, select the "Preview Plans" tab at the top of the screen.


  3. The user will then be directed to provide some general demographic information and click "See My Results" at the bottom right.


  4. Click "Preview Plans" again on the next page, then select the "Find Your Doctor or Hospital" bar in the middle of the screen, which opens a dropdown box with both "Find Your Doctor" and "Find Your Hospital" options. 


  5. Select the "Find Your Doctor" option. A new window will pop up prompting for the physician's name and location. 


  6. Input the physician's name and click on the "Search" button. If the desired physician is contracted with a participating Covered California health plan, his or her name should appear in the subsequent provider list. 


  7. Select the desired name from the list by clicking on the hyperlinked name.

  8. A new window will pop up with full details of the physician's practice. Choose the "Add to My Providers List" option to save the physician. If you would like to search for another physician, click  "Find Your Doctor" again and repeat the process. 

  9. Once your list is complete, select "Choose a Plan."

  10. The plans in which the chosen physician(s) participate will show a check mark box in the "My Doctors" row within the summary at the lower half of the page. A minus-sign box indicates that the physician does not participate in the plan.

Note: Covered California has also made downloadable Excel files of the individual exchange plans' provider directories by county available on its website at https://www.coveredca.com/hbex/stakeholders/provider-directory/. However, the lists have not been updated since September 2013.


Reporting Errors in the Provider Directory

If you find that you are being identified as contracted with an exchange plan but did not intend to do so, please confirm whether the individual plan website reflects the same information. If both Covered California website and plan website are showing the practice as contracted for an exchange plan, SFMS recommends the practice to contact the appropriate provider relations representative at the health plan and ask how they were opted into this product. Specifically, practices should request the plan to provide them with a copy of the notice or amendment the plan sent to the practice to advise that they were in the exchange network, including the terms (e.g., reimbursement, termination, etc.)

SFMS has compiled below a list of the exchange plans, excluding Kaiser, and phone numbers for practices to contact with questions about its participation status with each exchange plan.

The practice should also submit a brief description of the error to Covered California at ProviderDirectoryInp@covered.ca.gov.
