Legislative Update: Lifesaving Intelligent Firearms Enforcement (LIFE) Act October 9, 2013 Advocacy gun control, LIFE Act 0 Lifesaving Intelligent Firearms Enforcement (LIFE) Act, a package of gun control bills aimed at tightening the state's regulation of firearms and minimizing gun violence, is now awaiting Governor action. The CMA have endorsed all of the LIFE firearm safety bills, including: SB 374 (Steinberg): Bans detachable magazines in rifles and require those who currently possess these firearms to register the firearm by 7/1/2015. SB 567 (Jackson): Revises the definition of certain types of shotguns and classifies them as assault weapons. SB 683 (Block): Requires all handgun buyers to take a firearm safety class and earn a safety certificate. SB 755 (Wolk): Expands the categories of persons from possessing firearms, including those who have been convicted of two or more specified crimes involving intoxication or possession of a controlled substance within a three-year period. There is a vigil being planned at the State Capitol on Thursday, October 10, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend and remember the victims of gun violence in California.
