PPE MASKS AVAILABLE TO PHYSICIANS IN NEED April 8, 2020 Advocacy, Physician Wellness N95, PPE, COVID-19 0 PPE MASKS AVAILABLE TO PHYSICIANS IN NEED Dear SFMMS Members: We hope you are coping well in this time of COVID crisis. The shortage of PPE is an ongoing concern for some clinicians, especially smaller independent practices. With considerable difficulty, the SFMMS has purchased a cache of KN95 (3M, the manufacturer, has stated that their KN95 is equivalent to US NIOSH N95 standards; CDC has stated that KN95 is a suitable alternative to N95 when supplies are short*) headband masks for distribution to those members most in need. At this time the “triage” priority here must be those practices not able to obtain masks via their hospitals or groups or other routes. If you wish to receive a package of masks from us, to be picked up at a central San Francisco location, write to Steve Heilig at heilig@sfmms.org, stating where your practice is, specialty, how many physicians currently practicing, and contact information (email and phone). We will reply to you promptly. Thank you for your dedication in these trying times. And thank you to SFMMS Board member Dennis Song, MD, DDS for facilitating this process, and special thanks to Sandra Hernandez, MD and the California Health Care Foundation for generously funding this effort.
