SMART Portal Launch and Webinar

The AMA is improving the health of the nation by confronting the increasing chronic disease burden focusing on the prevention of type 2 diabetes. Current statistics show that one out of three American adults have prediabetes and 90% of them don’t know they have it.  Having prediabetes increases the risk of developing serious health problems such as type 2 diabetes, stroke and heart disease.

In 2015 the AMA began a partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) resulting in the creation of Prevent Diabetes STATTM (Screen/Test/Act Today) a strategic effort to engage more Americans with prediabetes and slow the progression of type 2 diabetes.  Since 2017 the AMA has been collaborating with medical societies to engage their physician members regarding prediabetes and the prevention of type 2 diabetes.

On October 1, 2018, at Noon Central the AMA will be hosting a webinar to announce the launch of an online resource library that houses communications/media materials for use by medical societies (information to participate in the webinar below).  This online resource - the State Medical Association Resources and Tools (SMART) Portal - offers an easily accessible, self-service and on-demand platform so medical societies can provide information on the prevention of type 2 diabetes to their membership.

To access the SMART Portal just log in by entering the following:  Name, Email and Organization Name (no password needed).  The site can be accessed by multiple staff members within the same organization.

The materials on the SMART Portal can be modified to fit the needs/interests of your organization’s communication with the membership.  New content will be added regularly, and you will receive an email notification as new material is made available.

It is our hope that medical societies will take advantage of the communications/media materials on the SMART Portal and increase awareness about diabetes prevention among as many physicians as possible.
