SF Sugary Beverage Tax Community Rally January 21, 2014 Local Events, News Scott Wiener, soda tax, sugary beverage tax 0 Please join Supervisor Scott Wiener for a community rally to support a proposal for a sugary beverage tax. Saturday, February 1, at 10 am Bayview YMCA, 1601 Lane Street Over the past year, San Franciscans have been building an incredible coalition – and enormous momentum – toward a sugary beverage tax to fund nutrition, physical activity, and health programs. Supervisors Scott Wiener, Eric Mar, Malia Cohen, and John Avalos have crafted a measure to help San Francisco address the growing health epidemic caused by these drinks. SFMS is a supporter of the soda tax, and has spearheaded a resolution on this topic that was adopted by CMA in favor of sugar taxes. The idea of a sugary beverage tax has been endorsed by many organizations, including the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, Trust for Public Land, Hospital Council of Northern California, the San Francisco Medical Society, and California Center for Public Health Advocacy.
